Chemical peels in depth

If you’re in Montreal and looking to improve the overall health and appearance of your skin, consider a chemical peel at Reimagine Clinic. This state-of-the-art clinic offers a range of skin care services, including chemical peels, to help clients achieve their desired skin goals.

A chemical peel is a non-invasive treatment that uses a solution to exfoliate the top layers of the skin. This treatment helps to improve the texture and tone of the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

One of the benefits of a chemical peel is that it is a quick. The procedure is typically completed in about 30 minutes, and clients can expect a downtime of 2-5 days.

In addition to chemical peels, Reimagine Clinic also offers a range of other skin care services, including facials, microneedling, and hydra dermabrasion. These treatments are designed to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin, giving clients a more youthful and radiant complexion.

Overall, Reimagine Clinic is the perfect choice for anyone in Montreal looking for high-quality skin care services. With expert practitioners and state-of-the-art techniques, this clinic can help clients achieve their desired skin goals.

Salicylic Acid Peel (Level 1 Peel: Light Peel)

This peel is a perfect lightweight peel for first-time users as it produces excellent immediate results as it penetrates and cleanses clogged pores. This peel is ideal for sensitive skin.

Glycolic Acid Peel 35% (Level 2 Peel: Light to medium)

This peel is a medium strength peel, perfect for those with less sensitive skin. This peel is best for sun people with sun damage and uneven skin tones. This concentration removes pore-clogging debris evenly and stimulates the production of new elastin and collagen.

AHA / BHA Acne Peel (Level 3 Peel: Medium to strong)

 – Removes dead cells on the surface of the skin, leaving it smooth and rejuvenated

 – Unclog pores, clearing breakouts and combing acne

– Improves fine wrinkles, fighting aging and scarring

– Brightens your complexion

– Beneficial for hyperpigmentation, keratosis pilaris and melasma

– Helps with inflammation

– Gentler on the skin rather than physical exfoliation

TCA 20% (PH 1.0) (Level 4 Peel: Strong)

This peel is a medium strength peel. It revives the skin with radiance and glow at moderate downtime and peeling. It can be used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, uneven complexion, acute acne and mild acne.

TCA 30% (PH 1.0) (Level 4 Peel: Strong)

This peel is a medium strength peel. It revives the skin with radiance and glow at moderate downtime and peeling. It can be used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, uneven complexion, acute acne and mild acne.

WHO ARE THEY FOR?

Superficial Level 1 Peels are safe and effective on all skin types and can be applied to the face, neck, and body.

Medium-depth Level 2 & 3 Chemical Peels are ideal for those who want more dramatic results than a Superficial Peel can offer but wish to avoid the risk and recovery time associated with deeper peels.

Level 4 (TCA) Peels are ideal for those with severe skin concerns/irregularities. Recovery time is moderate (Up to 2 weeks).

ARE THERE ANY IMMEDIATE SIDE EFFECTS?

After a Chemical Peel treatment, you can expect mild swelling, redness, crusting/scabbing, cracking, flaking, and peeling. Often skin may also turn a darker shade and become stiff before it begins the peeling process. The downtime before your skin is restored can be anywhere from 2 to 7 days depending on how quickly your skin heals.

You will physically be able to return to normal activities immediately following treatment; however, your appearance may deter you from wanting to be seen in public. You should be able to comfortably return to the public eye within 2/3 days. You will maintain a flushed appearance that will fade slowly over the course of several days post treatment.

Taking caution to properly moisturize skin before and after treatment will dramatically lessen the effects. No makeup for at least 3 days after the initial treatment.

WHAT ARE THE ANTICIPATED RESULTS?

It takes the skin approximately 5 days to heal itself after a Superficial Peel, at which point you will start to see first signs of results that will maximize after a week post treatment.

Results include minimized pores, fine lines, sun damage, and acne, and moderate improvements in tone, texture, and coloration. Skin will appear tighter, smoother, more even, and radiant.

Results from a Medium-depth Chemical Peels include improvements in texture and skin tone, reduction in fine wrinkles, age spots, pore size, and dark under-eye circles, and clearer, brighter skin over all.

These effects will last for six months to a year, and improvements may persist if you adhere to usual skincare maintenance regiment with treatments like hydradermabrasion or superficial chemical peels.

we’re here to answer all your questions

A chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it “blister” and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem being treated. But you also may be more likely to have an uneven skin tone after the procedure.

Skin sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels. They may need other kinds of cosmetic surgical procedures, such as microneedling.

Tell us if you have any history of scarring, cold sores that keep coming back, or facial X-rays.

Before you get a chemical peel, we may ask you to stop taking certain drugs and prepare your skin by using other medications, such as Retin-A, renova, or glycolic acid.

Chemical peels should be avoided if any of the following conditions are present:
• Active cold sores, herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated
• Wounded, sunburned or excessively sensitive skin
• Accutane use within the last year
• History of recent chemotherapy or radiation therapy
• Allergies to aspirin
• Women who are pregnant or actively breastfeeding
• Patients with Vitiligo
• Patients with a history of autoimmune disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis etc) or any condition that may weaken their immune system

The esthetician who does your peel will first clean your skin thoroughly. Then she will apply one or more chemical solutions to small areas of your skin. That creates a controlled wound, letting new skin take its place.

During a chemical peel, most people feel a burning sensation that lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. Putting cool compresses on the skin may ease that stinging.

Depending upon the type of chemical peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four-week intervals until you get the look you’re after.

Medium-depth and deep peeling may result in swelling as well as blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of seven to 14 days. Medium-depth peels may be repeated in six to 12 months, if necessary.

You’ll need to avoid the sun for several weeks after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile. You will need to use a sunscreen FPS above 30.

• One week before the peel avoid waxing, electrolysis, deploritory creams, and laser hair removal.
• Two to three days before the peel discontinue using any prescription topicals such as Retin-A, differin or Tazorac, as well as any products containing retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) or benzoyl peroxide.
• Patients who have had any medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures such as Laser treatments, cosmetic fillers or other surgical procedures should wait until skin sensitivity has completely resolved before receiving a peel.

Your skin will feel tighter and be more red then usual. Your skin may feel tacky and have a yellowish orange tinge that subsides in a few hours. This is due to the Retinoic acid applied to the skin. This is a self neutralizing peel and patients should wait at least 4hours before washing there face that evening.

Peeling will generally start 48-72 hours after your treatment and can last 2-5 days. It is very important not to pick off peeling skin; peeling is minimal and easily controlled with moisturizer. Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation.

Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation.

Use of a soap free gentle cleanser shall be used to wash your face, scrubs and wash cloths should be avoided while skin is peeling. Application of a hydrating moisturizer twice a day or as often as necessary is recommended to relieve dryness and control peeling. TNS ceramide cream, Elta intense moisturizer or Neocutis bio cream are all highly suggested. A physical Sunblock must be worn daily. Its best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for 1-week post peel.
