Microshading in montreal

Unlike microblading, microshading does not tattoo full strokes along the browline, but rather small points to “shade” in sparse areas. Instead of creating the illusion of individual hairs, microshading fills in the entire brow with light pigmentation through the use of a fine tipped needle.

Microshading is great for oily skin, if that is your case then we highly suggest microshading instead of microblading.

The results will not appear to be individual eyebrow hairs, but rather a shading that more closely resembles penciling or powdering your brows with makeup.

That’s why getting microshading at Reimagine Clinic can be a life changing moment – eyebrow tattooing can put an end to this vicious cycle and liberate you from the chains of imperfect brows!

When it comes to performing eyebrow microshading, the difference in skills, experience, and artistry between individuals could be very wide and so are the results and the cost of the procedure. The truth is not all microshaders are created equally so even though there are thousands of people performing it across Canada, the way it is done by the Reimagine clinic artists that perform it is unlike any other in the industry.

Who Shouldn't Get Microshading

While microshading is exceptionally versatile—and is actually the highly recommended alternative for clients with very oily skin or large pores who cannot get microblading you may not be a good candidate (or must obtain medical clearance first) if you have any of the following:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding: As a strict safety precaution, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing during this time.

  • Active skin conditions: Eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, or active acne in the immediate brow area will severely compromise the healing of the shaded pixels and pigment retention.

  • Certain medications & conditions: Accutane use within the past 12 months, undergoing chemotherapy, uncontrolled diabetes, or taking daily blood-thinning medications requires a doctor’s clearance prior to booking.

  • History of keloid scarring: Because the fine-tipped needle creates micro-punctures across the entire brow area to deposit the pigment, individuals prone to keloids should avoid this treatment.

What Is the Aftercare for Microshading?

Proper aftercare ensures your microshading heals into that perfect, soft-powdered makeup look. Follow these guidelines closely:

  • Do NOT pick, scratch, or peel: As the small points of pigment heal, your brows will naturally form light, granular scabs and flake off. Picking at these flakes will pull the pigment out of the skin, leaving patchy, uneven spots.

  • Keep them clean but dry: Wash gently as directed by your Reimagine Clinic artist, but avoid submerging your brows in water (no swimming, long showers, or saunas) for the first 10–14 days.

  • Avoid heavy sweating: Strenuous workouts should be paused for at least 7 days to prevent salt and moisture from pushing the freshly deposited pigment out of the skin.

  • Follow the Hybrid/Ombre protocol: Apply your recommended healing balm strictly as directed to protect the skin without suffocating it. You can find our complete Hybrid Brows Aftercare Guide here.

Safety and Side Effects

Microshading is a safe, highly controlled procedure that relies on the advanced artistry of our Reimagine Clinic team. Here is what you can expect:

  • The “Brow Shock” phase: Because microshading fills in the entire brow rather than just individual strokes, your brows will look significantly darker, bolder, and more “blocky” immediately after the procedure. Do not panic they will shrink slightly and fade by 30–40% into a soft, powdery finish as they heal.

  • Minimal discomfort: We use highly effective topical anesthetics to keep you completely comfortable while the fine-tipped needle gently shades the skin.

  • Temporary redness: The skin immediately surrounding your brows may be slightly pink or mildly swollen for 24–48 hours post-treatment.

  • Unmatched clinical standards: Our artists perform this technique unlike anyone else in the industry, utilizing 100% disposable, single-use sterile tools and premium pigments in a strictly sanitized clinical environment.

Enhancing and Maintaining Your Results

Microshading permanently liberates you from the daily cycle of penciling in imperfect brows, but it does require minimal maintenance to keep the color looking fresh:

  • Attend your perfecting touch-up: A follow-up session 6 to 8 weeks after your initial appointment is crucial to fill in any shading that faded during the healing process and perfect the gradient effect.

  • Protect your brows from the sun: UV rays are the number one cause of premature fading. Once fully healed, always apply SPF 30+ daily to your brows to prevent the pigment from shifting color.

  • Avoid active skincare on the brow area: Keep retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and chemical peels strictly away from your tattooed brows, as these ingredients will rapidly strip the soft shading.

  • Schedule annual color boosts: To maintain that flawless, freshly powdered makeup look, most clients return every 1 to 2 years for a single-session color boost.

we’re here to answer all your Ombre Brows questions

Microshading is a brow treatment where a brow technician uses a very fine pen to make individual tattoo marks that resemble tiny dots onto the brows.

1. You find it difficult to draw/fill in your eyebrow makeup yourself.
2. If you find it difficult to maintain your makeup throughout the day.
3. You wish your eyebrows were sweat/water resistant at saunas, swimming pools/ beaches, etc.
4. You want to minimize your makeup routine so you can sleep in a little more!
5. Or to just change your look but don’t know how!
However, although microshading is semi-permanent, it is still a form of tattoo that you will have to have for a good year or two. If you’re ready to commit to a shape, you’re ready for microshading!

Nothing happens to your natural eyebrows as they are untouched by the microshading. It is important to keep most of your natural hair as much as possible to maintain a natural aesthetic.

It can, depending on each person’s reception of anesthesia. However, most permanent makeup studios, including ours, provide ample numbing in order to provide clients with a painless experience.

Keep your skin exfoliated and moisturized! It’s also best not to drink or take blood-thinning medications/supplements prior to microshading as this will cause an increased level of bleeding throughout the procedure. Coming in with makeup is optional but not recommended as you will be restricted from getting water on the procedural area for the first 24hrs.

Microshading typically lasts up to about 1-2 years, depending on the skin type and lifestyle of the recipient. If you lead a more active lifestyle, such as regular workouts and sports that cause heavy sweating, you will experience shorter lived results.

Microshading is generally safe, but complications can occur.

This procedure implants ink on the upper dermal layer of skin. There’s the risk of injury if the needle goes beyond this layer of skin.

You may also have some skin irritation symptoms after the procedure, such as:

  • itchiness
  • swelling
  • redness

Microshading comes with a number of potential brow benefits:

  • Lasts longer than microblading
  • Ideal for sensitive, oily skin types
  • Gives the appearance of fuller brows
  • Helps with eyebrow symmetry

But it’s especially effective for those with oily skin, as this skin type may not do well with semi-permanent tattoos. Then there’s the ouch-factor. For people with sensitive skin, microblading drags a blade across your brows and it is similar to paper cuts. That dragging motion can be more painful if you have sensitive skin.

Avoid getting your skin wet for at least 24 hours post-procedure, including in the shower. Since you won’t be able to cleanse your skin, it’s best to avoid makeup to reduce the risk of getting the area wet. Also, avoid any activity that could cause excessive sweating or moisture—that means skipping your morning hot yoga class. You’ll want to care for the brows with anti-bacterial ointment right after you get them done for the first 24 hours, and then use a light moisturizer. Also, avoid chemical peels afterwards, as well as itching or picking at them—you should treat them like a body tattoo.
